June 29, 2014 – Chilliwack, BC – We advised management of both stores ahead of time that we would be in front of their stores to educate customers about protecting their health by avoiding farmed Atlantic salmon. We appreciate their cooperation. It was a peaceful rally, respecting people and property. We handed out many brochures “What do my kids and I need to know about farmed salmon?” Boycotters took turns handing these out, and we were very well received! The new signs and the big banner worked well to attract the attention of people going in and out of the stores.
Our hands go up to Don Bain for being a great photographer at both locations! Chris Gadsden did a wonderful job on the video of the Walmart boycott event! Featured in this video (see below) is Tony Williams and his children from the Skwah First Nation. Tony sang his songs to honor wild salmon!
Once again, our team work made a difference in raising awareness. The boycott action will really count! We are mobilizing our forces to participate in the Protect Wild Salmon Rally at the Peace Arch border crossing on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm! We are car pooling to get as many people there as possible! Everyone who wants to go are asked to meet at the Cottonwood Parking lot in front of the Target store. Anyone with Vans or buses are asked to be at the parking lot by 8:00 am so we can organize the car pooling! Gary Haggquist has a van that can carry 7 people, and he will be doing the photography for the event as well!
August 9, we will be in front of the Superstore in Mission! We need other locations to take this one on as well at any store that sells net-pen farmed salmon.
