SELECT DATE AND LOCATION
If possible, select a big-box store in your community that sells farmed altantic salmon: Superstore, Costco, Walmart…
REQUEST TARGETED RETAILER REMOVE FARMED SALMON
Arrange to meet with the store manager and politely explain the request:
UPON REFUSAL – NOTIFY RETAILER OF BOYCOTT RALLY
Make it clear that it will be a peaceful and respectful rally, intended only to inform consumers of the serious hazards of net-pen farmed salmon – for about one hour
RECRUIT SUPPORTERS
  • invite everyone you know that supports wild salmon and/or sustainability
  • If you don’t already have a core group – put out a call on Salmon Are Sacred Facebook Group
  • Even just one person is good enough – like Abelone in Surrey
HAVE A MEETING
  • make sure that everyone involved is aware of and agrees to the Rally Pledge
  • make some signs and posters (see downloads)
  • get brochures or other literature to give to store customers at the Rally (see downloads page or contact us for brochure availability)
  • arrange for someone to take pictures (and video) at the Rally
  • ask for volunteers to put up posters
PROMOTE THE RALLY
  • post a Facebook EVENT page
  • invite media – write a simple advisory (or if possible, a press release) and email to local newspapers, radio and tv stations (newspapers list) – include the link to your Facebook Event page “for more information”
  • put up posters at community halls, bait & tackle /sports /recreation stores, etc.
  • post your Rally here, using the New Rally form
HOLD THE RALLY
  • set up signs and your group near to, but not in front of, the store entrance; make sure not to interfere with any traffic (car or pedestrian)
  • hand out brochures or avail. literature
  • ask store customers if they know there are health risks with eating farmed salmon – be friendly, engage and disengage gently
  • take pictures (see Rally Locations for Rallies already done)
  • have fun, celebrate that you’re with friends helping change things for the better
EVENT FOLLOWUP
  • post some pictures: (1) on your Facebook Event page; (2) on Salmon Are Sacred Facebook Group.
  • write a Letter To Editor, in your local newspaper(s)
