Replacing ocean-based fish farms with land-based aquaculture is critical to protect wild salmon
that have important ecological roles, including being a climate regulator.
Breaks New Ground in Vancouver!!
Costco Vancouver - at BC Place - was the scene of a very dynamic rally : ~ First Nations and Allies - from Chilliwack and metro Vancouver ~ captivating large groups of COSTCO customers - like never before! Great work by SHIRLEY SAMPLES and EDDIE GARDNER.
When Eddie Gardner, Stó:lō elder from Skwah First Nation, realized that net-pen salmon farms put wild salmon at serious risk he began organizing farmed salmon boycott rallies every month. The gatherings are peaceful, educating shoppers about the risks farmed salmon pose to their own health and to wild salmon.
Other communities are joining in simultaneous rallies throughout BC and across Canada. Join us by checking OUR CALENDAR.
BOYCOTT RALLIES ARE NEEDED
In Nov. 2013, Boycott Rallies began to occur simultaneously - coordinated in different communities of BC and all them targeting a local Superstore retail outlet for that date.
The Rallies continue to grow, across both BC and in eastern Canada (at various targeted retailers). To find the location nearest you, or to start a Rally in your area, check RALLY LOCATIONS.
RALLY LOCATIONS SPREADING
Everyone can pitch in and help us stop farmed salmon at the cash register! Organize a Rally in your own community - it's not hard:
WSDA Responds to Appeal of legal decision regarding transfer of diseased salmon-We urge you to reconsider your course of action and immediately drop co-appealing with Marine Harvest, and place a moratorium on ocean fish farms until the Cohen Commission recommendations have been fully implemented in collaboration with coastal and river Indigenous people. Remember, Marine Harvest did not elect you, Canadians did!
The Broughton Archipelago – Carpet Bombed by Fish Farms-With the breaking news that the first published evidence that a European variant of the infectious salmon anaemia virus (ISAV) is present in British Columbia, the Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance responded with a press release and a rally at the office of the Department of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard in Vancouver on January 14,2016.
Another Rally to Stop Ocean Farmed Salmon at the Cash Register-Members of the Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance were at Walmart December 19, 2015 once again! Consistent, regular action like this will help stop open-net fish farms at the cash register! We acknowledge and thank Shawn Baptiste who holds regular net-pen farmed salmon boycott rallies in Duncan, BC!
